Bethanie is a resource centre for worship and prayer for France and Europe. It has been the home of Bless since 2009.
We host the Seven Stories School here twice annually, as well as prayer weekends for Europe, our summer Atelier school of arts and worship and our monthly Bless Church gatherings. Béthanie also hosts local community events for Livarot and is the kitchen base for SOS Chai.
Bethanie is a former cider and cheese farm around 40km South of the city of Caen. consisting of two houses, a multi-purpose meeting room, a prayer room and a number of outbuildings. Bethanie offers comfortable farmhouse accommodation for up to 18 adults or 14 adults and 8 children. The LACEY centre, our multi-purpose meeting space, is suitable for gatherings of up to 50 people and offers a coffee area, a multi-media equipped meeting space, a permanent prayer room and a dining barn for 40 covers. Our bedrooms are spread over two houses, offering two double rooms, one family suite sleeping four, one twin room, four singles and a bunk room.
Set in four acres of fields and gardens, Bethanie sits in the “Vallée de La Vie” (the Valley of Life), a peaceful rural location. The town of Livarot, population 2,200, is 4km away, and is the home of one of France’s most highly prized cheeses. The Cathedral city of Lisieux is 20km away and Caen, ancient home of William the Conquerer, is 40km.
As well as our own annual programme of prayer and teaching retreats, each summer we welcome church groups from all over Europe and North America for weekend or week long programmes of teaching and mission. If you would like to explore bringing a group from your church, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are occasionally able to offer B&B to couples, families or small groups, depending on our availability and programme. The standard rate is €30 per night per person. Béthanie is also available each year in August for family holiday self-catering bookings. Again, please contact us on email@example.com with your preferred dates and we will get back to you.
We look forward to welcoming you to a place where we have truly tasted the blessings of God…
“I just love being there. It’s a “thin place” where I always seem to find myself opening up to the Holy Spirit and those sharing the space with me.” – Nick James
What’s the address?
319 La Hanoudière, Heutevent, 14140 Livarot Pays D’Auge, Calvados, France.
Can I get public transport to Béthanie?
No, the nearest train station with regular trains is Lisieux which is a 25 minute drive away. You need to arrange your own transportation here as we cannot offer lifts.
How do I get there?
If coming from the UK, we recommend the Portsmouth to Caen ferry crossing and then it’s an hour’s drive from there. If coming from the US or further afield, we recommend flying to Charles de Gaulle airport and then renting a car – it’s about a 3 hour drive.
Will I have to share a room?
Depending on the size of your group, quite possibly.
Are all the rooms en-suite?
No, we have two en-suite rooms and the others are shared bathrooms.
Do you provide bedding and towels?
What if I want to bring a group larger than your capacity?
That’s fine, we can usually arrange for overflow accommodation in the surrounding area through our community. There are also a number of Airbnbs in the area.
Is it self-catering?
For our events and summer group bookings we provide full board but we always ask everyone to pitch in and help out.
What if I have dietary requirements?
We do our best to cater to allergies and dietary needs however we are in France, where bread and cheese is kind of a big deal. Lots of guests find that they can eat everything here because the bread and dairy are such good quality!
